What's Your Weight Loss Personality?

Trying to decide which weight-loss program is best for you may depend on your weight-loss personality and needs.

If you need social support, try Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), which has been supporting people trying to lose weight since 1948. Visit TOPS Web site to see if there’s a meeting near you.

If you need to fix a food addiction, try Overeaters Anonymous, which uses the Twelve Steps associated with Alcoholics Anonymous to help with the physical and emotional issues that may be behind compulsive overeating. No dues or fees. Vist the Overeaters Anonmymous Web site to find a meeting.

If you need flexibility, try Weight Watchers, which has been providing weight loss program support, tips and recipes for more than 40 years.

If you cook for one, be a regular at your grocery store’s salad bar or try Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine meals, which are nutritionally sound and make sure you won’t overeat.

If you’re always on the go, try meal-replacement drinks like Slim-Fast or prepackaged meal plans like Jenny Craig or Nutri/System to help ensure you have a balanced meal, not a fast-food feeding frenzy.

If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, go to www.mypyramid.gov and get the number of calories you need per day and the amount of food you need from each group on a daily basis. Then you can take control of choices. Tracking forms are available online. The service, offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is free.
